ACCUPLACER and CELSA Placement

Five Easy Steps

Step 1 - Visit the Enrollment Center

  • Fill out and submit a Student Information Form (SIF) or download and print out a SIF (below) and bring it an Academic Adviser in the Enrollment Center:
  • SIF English version (.pdf)
  • SIF En Español (.pdf)
  • SIF Hoop of Learning, (.pdf) a High School to College Bridge Program for Native-American Students.

Step 2 - Study and prepare to take ACCUPLACER or CELSA placement.

ACCUPLACER CELSA

The ACCUPLACER assessment test measures your reading, writing and math knowledge level so we can identify the best classes for your success.

It’s free, multiple-choice, computerized, and untimed. Plan on about 2 hours.

New students who speak English as a second language are required to take the CELSA assessment test.

This test measures your understanding of the English language. Your score helps us identify which classes are most appropriate for you.

CELSA is a free, 75-question, multiple-choice, computerized test. The CELSA test is written in English and is a 45-minute timed test.

Prepare for the CELSA

Step 3 - Take ACCUPLACER or CELSA

ACCUPLACER
Allow at least 2 hours to complete.
8 a.m. - Last test begins at 4:30 p.m.* 9 a.m. - Last test begins at 4:30 p.m.* Closed Fridays through Aug. 8.
CELSA
45 minute timed test.
8 a.m. - Last test begins at 5:30 p.m.*  9 a.m. - Last test begins at 5:30 p.m.* Closed Fridays through Aug. 8.
NORTH CAMPUS DAYS AND TIMES
 TEST  Monday-Thursday  Friday 
ACCUPLACER
Allow at least 2 hours to complete.
8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.* Closed Fridays through Aug. 8.

*Arrive 15 minutes early. Bring a current photo ID (GCC ID, high school ID, driver's license, passport, government/state issued ID or photo credit card).

Step 4 - See Academic Advisor

After testing, print out and carry your test scores to an academic advisor in the Enrollment Center who will use your scores to select the best classes for you. See recommended placements in the Maricopa Accuplacer & CELSA Course Placement chart.

Scores are also available in 24 hours after testing in your my.maricopa.edu/ student account. 

Step 5 - Retest

May I retest? Yes! You may retest after 24-hours (or later). Then, wait three months (or later) and you can retest a second time. Scores are valid for two years.
