Student Loans

Stafford Student Loans

This is aid you MUST repay.

Glendale Community College packages an initial financial aid award with Direct Loan base amounts. As a result, you may be eligible for additional loan funds; however, it is important to consider the consequences of your borrowing decision. Please review the Federal Direct Loan maximums for additional information.

To apply for a loan, applicants must first file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  You must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Glendale Community College to receive a loan.  The amount and type of loan you are eligible to receive may change if your enrollment status changes.

All first-time borrowers at GCC are required to complete an online Entrance Counseling Session and Master Promissory Note (MPN) before a federal student loan can be disbursed. The first year, first time borrowers are subject to a 30 day delayed disbursement.  Loans not accepted within 2 weeks may be canceled.

Subsidized Loans

To be eligible to receive a Subsidized loan you must have calculated financial need

Repayment of the interest on a subsidized Stafford loan is deferred while you are enrolled in an academic program. First-year students (30 or fewer credits earned at the 100 level or transfer hours) maximum subsidized loan is $3,500 per academic year. Second-year students (over 30 credits earned at the 100 level or transfer hours) maximum subsidized loan is $4,500 per academic year.

Unsubsidized Loans

Interest payments on unsubsidized loans begin as soon as the money is disbursed. Unsubsidized loan maximums are determined by your dependency status, cost of attendance, remaining need and grade level. You must always apply for a subsidized loan first. Dependent students are eligible for a combined total of subsidized and unsubsidized loans of up to $4,500 which is dependent on grade level.

Visit the Student Loan Borrower Information page to request the additional loan. Follow the instructions to review your aggregate loan borrowing and estimated monthly current loan obligation prior to making your request, then submit the Request for Additional Loan Funds eForm.

DEADLINE: For loan changes, this form must be received no later than 15 business days before your latest class end date. If you are no longer eligible for a loan, the request will not be processed.
