In 2005, Dr. Nunez-Noriega offered to match every dollar pledged by GCC faculty and staff—up to $10,000 if he completed the Tempe Triathlon. In just four short weeks, a total of $21,000 was raised to support student scholarships at Glendale Community College.
The challenge this time is to support his journey to climb Pico de Orizaba---the highest mountain in Mexico and the third highest mountain in North America to raise money once again for student scholarships and to send a message to Never Give Up!
Dr. Nunez-Noriega is someone who knows what it means to never give up---growing up with financial hardships and health challenges yet earning a Ph.D. and becoming a professor of higher education; conquering the elite sport of a triathlon and outliving stage 4 cancer for three years.
Carlos has overcome extraordinary adversity of all kind and has emerged with remarkable stories of courage, strength, and determination. Now a successful professor at Glendale Community College, Dr. Nunez-Noriega continues to use the lessons of his remarkable life to help and inspire students.
His message is simple. No matter what the challenge might be or how uncertain you are about the future. Never Give Up!
