Support for Students with Disabilities

Handicap This show featured successful students with disabilities.GCC has seen a 51% increase is its disabled student population. Providing support services offers equal opportunities for success. Support is needed for services that promote students' independence and advocacy skills and help students successfully complete coursework and/or earn a degree or certificate.

Support for Sustainable Energy Activities

Recycling efforts on campus are integral to our sustainability initiatives. As a member of the American College and University Presidents' Climate Commitment, GCC joins the Maricopa Community College District in leading efforts to create sustainable practices and programs in higher education institutions. In 2011, President Irene Kovala, on behalf of the GCC community, signed the American College and University Presidents' Climate Commitment, pledging GCC to carbon neutrality by 2025.

GCC's "green efforts" include xeriscape, locally-sourced building materials, environmentally-friendly chemicals and cleaners, a fleet of hybrid vehicles and electric vehicle charging stations, sensors to reduce energy and resource usage, LEED-designed buildings, e-cycling events, comingle recycling bins and paper reduction pledge.

Direct Support for Students

Students relax in the Student Union.

Your support for students is more important than ever.  Help us keep education affordable by supporting scholarships and programs like  Achieving a College Education (ACE Plus), STEM, and Transfer students.

Achieving a College Education (ACE Plus) serves financially disadvantaged and first-generation college bound students  to earn college credits while still in high school.  ACE Plus serves over 500 students from 11 West Valley High Schools. 90-95% of ACE Plus students graduate from high school and 80% go on to attend college.

STEM scholarships are needed to attract students with an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics in order to provide them with knowledge and skills for the jobs of the future.

Only 34% of all college students graduate with a degree from a two or four-year college. We want to change that by helping students complete their degree at the Community College and if desired to transfer to a four year college or university.  Transfer scholarships can make that affordable.

Faculty & Staff Innovation, Creativity and Excellence

Faculty innovation like the Human Library spurs student success.Through the development of dynamic learning environments, Glendale Community College is empowered to affect positive change both inside and outside the classroom and in the support and development of faculty and staff. Your gift to this fund supports projects like The Human Library, Civility Week, and the Robinson Room.

The Human Library originally began in Denmark but with the efforts of local organizers like GCC, it has since spread to more than 27 countries. Like a regular library, readers borrow books for a short period of time, but in this library the Books are people community members, civic leaders, and individuals from all backgrounds and experiences who agree to sit down with readers and have a personal conversation.

Civility Week is a series of lectures, simulations, presentations, class assignments, social media and video competition whereby participants were asked to reflect on what civility means and how it can be applied to our daily lives. The project received the 2014 Innovation of the Year.

Robinson Room – a state of the art technology room which is considered a “living” classroom Click here for more information http://www2.gccaz.edu/news/feature-story/learning-latest-technology
