The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is the application used to determine financial aid awards, whether federal grants, student loans, or federal work-study. Many factors are considered in your eligibility including annual income and the number in college. Not to mention the government budgets a limited amount of money for federal student aid. So don't wait. The earlier you submit your FAFSA, the better your chances of receiving financial aid.

We hold free financial aid information sessions/workshops throughout the year. Check our calendar for upcoming sessions. There is an Online Tutorial Video and also resources available through

However, the first question every student should ask themselves – what semester are you planning on attending? That can determine which FAFSA you should fill out and what tax year you are required to report.

FAFSA Year Semesters Covered Tax Year Required
2017/2018 Fall 2017, Spring 2018, and Summer 2018 2015
2018/2019 Fall 2018, Spring 2019, and Summer 2019 2016

For every academic year you attend, you must submit a FAFSA. FAFSA is available to be renewed every October 1. The deadline to complete the FAFSA application is June 30 of the current academic year (e.g. June 30, 2018, is the deadline to file a FAFSA application for the 2017-2018 academic year).

Gather these documents:
  • Glendale Community College's Federal School code: 001076
  • Your Social Security number
  • Your Driver’s License number, Citizenship Verification, or Alien Registration number (the A# is not the same as your "Arrival" number).
  • Your parents' U.S. income tax return (IRS Form 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ) from last year, and yours if you filed taxes. The online FAFSA application also offers an IRS Data Retrieval Tool, to pull in your and/or your parents' tax return data.
  • W-2 Forms and other records of money earned last year
  • Current bank statements
Then go online to fill out your FAFSA.
