Michelle's design interests began at a young age. From designing large scale banners and newspapers for family events to her first business painting t-shirts hand lettering calligraphy as a pre-teen, she has always been a designer at heart. She worked at a graphics lab in High School and was taught traditional page layout using keylining, paste up and typesetting. She was the graphics lab wiz kid on the "new" Mac and (what is now) Adobe software in the 1980s. During her college studies she did prepress design work at newspapers and printing companies to gain experience in the field and pay the bills.
After graduating from Eastern Michigan University with a BFA in Visual Communications, she went to work for a design firm, Q LTD with clients like the SIGGRAPH Conferences, University of Michigan Business School and the Ann Arbor Transportation Authority. Her interest in software interface design, web design and online learning led her to ProQuest Information and Learning where she worked as an Online Marketing Manager and eventually a Product Manager for online learning software. From there she joined the Center for Professional Development at the University of Michigan School of Engineering as an Online Learning Coordinator for their Six Sigma programs which deliver courses on ground, hybrid and online in a state of the art lab. Michelle joined Glendale Community College in 2003 to work with faculty through what was then the Innovation Center as an Instructional Technologist.
Michelle taught graphic design and web design as a part time faculty member since 1998 for Eastern Michigan University, the College for Creative Studies, Washtenaw Community College and then at GCC. She has been a full time faculty member and Director of the Digital Media Arts program since 2009. She is pursuing a Master's Degree in Educational Technology at Northern Arizona University online. She is active in the Arizona Chapter of AIGA and enjoys hiking, camping, paddling and hanging out with her 3 children.
