Japanese Culture Club

Their purpose is to promote exploration and discovery of the Japanese culture among the Glendale Community College students; to encourage participation in Glendale Community College extracurricular activities and community.

Upcoming Events

Routinely each spring semester, students in the Glendale Community College Japanese Culture Club present a traditional matsuri, a festival of Japanese arts, culture and cuisine. Mixing traditional arts, like the shakuhachi, the wooden Japanese flute, and Shotokan Karate, with modern Japanese dance and a cosplay contest, gives this Festival a unique flavor.

Club members will perform a modern dance, a routine they’ve been practicing for three months. Area artisans will also participate including Phoenix Kendo Kai, Arizona Ondo Group, Eileen Morgan of Arizona Matsuri, Bobby Avstreih, and Samurai Comics. Tokyo Express will provide sample bento boxes.

The Japanese Festival is just one of the many ways the Japanese Club brings Japanese culture to campus. Throughout the year, the club members host demonstrations of calligraphy, origami, anime-style drawing, traditional storytelling and traditional dance.
