Gaucho Hall of Fame 2017 Inductees

Volleyball

The 1998 Women’s Volleyball team propelled GCC to another level within the ACCAC and the National landscape. This team’s accomplishments were tremendous in catapulting the Volleyball program to the National prominence it enjoys today. Their many accomplishments include: An overall 42-2 record;  An undefeated tournament Championship at the San Diego Mesa Invitational Tournament; An Undefeated Conference Season and ACCAC Conference Championship; An undefeated NJCAA Region 1 Tournament and Championship; A 3rd Place finish at the NJCAA DI National Tournament;  3 NJCAA All Americans, a Conference MVP and several NJCAA All Tournament recipients.

This special group of student-athletes and coaches include players;  Krista Bergren; Jenna Bergren; Micaela Douglas, Traci Price, Caniel Skolnick, Julie Southwick, Kim Gwaltney, Maegann Kilgore, Natalie Miller, Kelli Patterson, and Laura Hare. Coaches include: Head Coach Lisa Stuck and Assistant Coaches: Uyen Cao and Robyn McDowell. 

Jeff Huson

Jeff Huson is a former Baseball player at GCC in 1982 and 1983. He played 12 seasons in the major leagues with the Expos, Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles, Milwaukee Brewers, Seattle Mariners, California Angels, and Chicago Cubs. He is now the color commentator for television broadcasts for the Rockies. 

Scott Giddings

Scott Giddings was a runner at GCC in 1966 he was the first NJCAA Individual Cross Country Champion, Arizona Conference Individual Cross Country champion, was All American twice, won Arizona Conference Team Cross Country Champion Twice, NJCAA Team Cross Country Champions, and was Awarded GCC Sophomore athlete of the year by Maryvale Star newspaper and Graduated from University of Arizona in 1970.

Ron Davis

Ron Davis attended GCC from 1972 to 1974 he spent three seasons in the National Basketball Association as a member of the Atlanta Hawks and the San Diego Clippers. He attended Washington State University and was drafted during the fifth round of the 1976 NBA draft by the Hawks.  

Joe Kersting

Joe Kersting has spent 26 years as a college football coach, including 16 years as the head football coach at Glendale Community College, while at Glendale, his teams accomplished many outstanding feats. He inherited a program that won one game prior to his hiring. In two years, the program was transformed into undefeated National Junior College Athletic Association champions (1988). In the 1990s, Glendale was ranked the #11 NJCAA football program, and in the 2000s, the program has moved to #2 in the NJCAA. In Kersting’s 20 years of coaching at Glendale (four years as an assistant coach), the Gauchos have won three national championships (1988, 2000, 2005) and 14 conference championships, played in 13 post-season bowl games, and been nationally ranked 14 times. Kersting has been named Region Coach of the Year 11 times and National Coach of the Year once (2005). In the summer of 2006, Coach Kersting was inducted into the NJCAA Hall of Fame.
