The featured event of the evening! Come get a taste of the heavens at the GCC SciTech Festival on the North Campus! The astronomy department will open the Glendale College Astronomy Observatory to the public, enabling you to enjoy the wonders of the night sky for yourself. Skyguides from GCC's A.S.T.R.O. Club will be on hand to start you on your journey. Learn about the upcoming total lunar eclipse that is occurring on January 31, 2018!  Great for all ages, you won't want to miss this opportunity.

The GCC Geology Department will also be on hand to present their amazing collection of meteorites.  Hold a rock from outer space in your hand!

Physics Wyld!

Come get your Wyld on! The GCC Department of Physics will feature a number of events at the GCC SciTech Festival:

Makin' Lightning: Physics Wyld will fire up the Van Der Graff generator with an event that will make your hair stand on end! You'll love this shocking experience!

Loop-the-Loop Target Gallery: Think you're a good shot? See if you can hit the target when the ball does a complete 360-degree vertical loop before launching!

Fastest in the West: Do you think you're fast? Find out just how fast you are in this test of reaction time for all ages. Drop a ruler and catch it again as fast as you can -- try for the smallest drop possible. Do video games really improve reaction time?

Turning the Tables: When an ice skater spins, she tucks her arms in to go faster and extends them to slow down. Make yourself turn by tilting a bicycle wheel? How does this work? Experience it for yourself! This event is definitely not for the weak of stomach -- you were war

It's a Drag: Explore the fundamentals of aeronautics and air resistance in this great exploration opportunity. When you're finished, use what you've learned and build your own rocket and launch it down the hallway for fame and prizes! Build the amazing soda straw airplane and send it flying. How does that thing fly so well?? Take home your creations and show them off to your friends!

Use the Force!:  Use the principles of electric circuits to build your own miniature paper lightsaber that actually lights up!  All supplies will be provided for you to take home your own!

Download handouts for all of these activities!

Chemical Madness!

Come join the GCC Chemistry Department for exciting explosions, geysers of goo and perhaps even a little glow-in-the-dark magic!

Elephant Toothpaste: Does an elephant need toothpaste? If it did, it would have to be a lot, right? This exciting experiment creates a dramatic fountain of pasty goop, enough for a whole herd!

Liquid Nitrogen: Freeze the air into a liquid! See how this amazingly cold liquid super freezes anything it contacts. Don't touch!

Whoosh Bottle: A roaring detonation and a fountain of flame - you won't want to miss this.

Gummy Bears: Have you ever heard a gummy bear scream?  Watch sparks fly when a gummy bear is dropped into a molten salt.  We can try to save it with a Life Saver, but that just might make things more exciting!

Chemiluminescence: Fireflies have nothing on us! Once the sun goes down, we'll be making our own glow-in-the-dark fun!!

Chemistry of Chocolate: Who doesn't love chocolate?  Come see and experience the magic of everyone's favorite treat during this fun and engaging demonstration.
